The Oregon Medal of Honor Exhibit will be dedicated at Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon on Saturday, October 24 at 12:00 pm. The exhibit honors Oregon’s 26 Medal of Honor recipients who received our nation’s highest military award for valor above and beyond the call of duty during 8 wars in 10 countries over 108 years beginning with the Civil War. The recipients are connected with Oregon by accreditation of the Medal to Oregon, burial or residence.
The Medal of Honor citation and photograph of each recipient are displayed in the exhibit. Interactive kiosks contain the history of the Medal of Honor, citations and photos of all 3,495 Medal of Honor recipients and oral interviews of more than 100 recipients. The exhibit is located near the famed “Spruce Goose” and “Wright Flyer” airplanes.
This project was initiated and managed by Bend Heroes Foundation in partnership with Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and 23 other partners listed in the fact sheet.
Mr. Robert D. Maxwell of Bend is the guest of honor. He is the oldest of 78 living Medal of Honor recipients of all wars living in our nation and the only recipient living in Oregon. The dedication is coincident with Mr. Maxwell’s 95th birthday.
